“A wise woman builds her home, but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands” (Proverbs 14:1)
I'm constantly asked how I built my business, how I get to do what I love full time, how I live The Unimagined Life? My response, by using my mistakes as lessons learned and by using the wisdom of others to map out my next move.
I can remember a time when I was days away from eviction, car repossessed, and stuck in a dead end and abusive relationship. Burying myself under the covers of shame, guilt and depression because sleep was my only escape. I wondered why I was the victim of so many things gone wrong. I questioned why God was not helping to pull me out of the situations I found myself in. Like most women; I had dreamed of building the perfect empire with the; loving husband, adorable kids, beautiful house and a stable and fulfilling career. But life seemed to have given me the complete antithesis of everything I longed for. At the time, I failed to realize that my circumstances were a direct result of one foolish decision after another. I wasn't learning from my mistakes and was stuck in a painful, seemingly unbreakable cycle that was destroying me, my life and my home. I was the foolish woman that was tearing down her home.
My life changed drastically when I began to make wiser decisions that allowed me to build instead of tear down. The scripture this month is a reminder for me to continually build my home and not tear it down. Proverbs 14:1 says “A wise woman builds her home, but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands” Your home, in this instance, is your life. It is your career and/or business, your family, and your relationships. We have to constantly be cognizant of the things that we choose for our lives so that we are building our homes and not tearing them down. The decisions I made earlier in life in love, relationships, and money made it difficult for me to build. I was contributing to the destruction all around me. The decisions I make now allow me to build my home and an empire that helps others build their homes.
So ask yourself, are you building up or tearing down in the following areas:
Are you mindful of who you engage with?
Are you giving your profession the best of yourself?
Are you continually educating yourself about your field of interest?
Are you are you setting goals to move yourself into the best position for your career or business?
Are you uplifting those around you?
Are you removing negative energy from your space?
Are you limiting the interactions of the toxic relationships in your life?
Are you communicating effectively? Supportive? Understanding? Willing to compromise?
Are you mindful of your spending?
Are you budgeting and saving?
Are you living within your means?
Are you preparing for your future?
Are you establishing a spiritual foundation in your life?
Are you creating time for relaxation, rejuvenation and restoration for yourself?
Are you maintaining a healthy diet and regular exercise?
Are you feeding your spiritual soul on a daily basis?
I am a work in progress, but I am miles away from where I used to be. Today, I live a life building a home with my husband and together we are building an empire that will one day impact millions. I truly live a life unimagined.
